Week Three

Week Three

What an exciting week 3 we have had. This week some of community two's students went to the A and P show grounds to Interschool Cross Country where they competed against other schools around our local area. Here are some photos of them giving their best:

Well done to all those who were involved!

 Motuhake Show:

We were also lucky enough to attend the Motuhake Show. This shows has an important message about how to be resilient, caring, and share with others. This is shown through a unique performing arts act. Motuhake promote that, “We all have our own unique special gift. We must support each other to find and share these talents”

Some of our learners were lucky enough to take part in this show.

Tuakana Teina:

This afternoon we collaborated with community 5 and we came together to sing, dance and read with each. It was so much fun! Here are some photos of us reading with our older buddy:

Have a great weekend. We will see you all next week for week 4.

Reminders:

1. Please have base costumes in a named bag by Friday next week (14th August).

Term 3, Week 2 has already been and gone!

Week 2, Term 3

We hope you all enjoyed week 2 as much as we did! This week was filled with engaging literacy stations, production practice, a pōwhiri for many of the new members to our school community and of course some more exciting learning about sound, light, magnetism and simple machines.

The literacy stations this week were themed around a common love in community 2…dinosaurs. Students enjoyed creating stories, reading stories, designing puppets, and engaging in sensory play in a dinosaur land at the story table.

The whole community has been working hard to progress the development of the production and it has been enjoyable watching the joy of the students as they get to take their time on stage practicing.

The students have been really enjoying engaging with a new science topic each week. The science topics move around and provide students with hands on materials to explore their literacy group’s science topic.

This week has also brought more fun involving numicon! The students are doing a wonderful job consolidating their visual representation of number using numicon.

We are looking forward to another wonderful week of learning! Enjoy your weekend!

Community 2 , Week 10 : Another Wonderful Week!

Another wonderful week !

This week the students enjoyed a range of exciting and explorative educational tasks. The biggest joy for many seemed to stem from some new numeracy tasks. In numeracy we have been focusing on measurement, both length and weight. Students have been looking at different measurement tools and using these tools to solve problems. Towards the end of the week students were able to explore the use of balance scales to decide which fruit was the heaviest and which the lightest. Earlier in the week students were able to use uni-fix cubes to measure and put in order of height different illustrations from the much-loved book, 'Guess how much I love you'. Next week the students will begin to explore the concept of mass.

The community also contributed to the search for a logo for the Warkworth School. Towards the end of the week, a lot of focus and effort went in to the many designs that are now in the hands of Mrs. Holden. The designs were creative and in some cases collaborative.

The students have also begun looking at interesting ways to create story retells using technology. This week many of the students engaged with an application called 'Puppet Pals'. It was amazing to see how quick the students new their way around the app!

We are looking forward to another wonderful week in Week 11! See you then!

A week of mystery

On Thursday our Community had a mystery visitor, and we are still unsure who came along and left white footprints. We had to eliminate anyone in our Community, so we decided that we need to measure our own feet and compare them to the footprints left. We can safely say that no one in our Community matched the footprint and the mystery continues.

In Topic we have continued to explore different areas.

Our Mother Nature group have been looking at a Butterfly Life Cycle and comparing it to a Life Cycle of a plant. We went outside and explored the swan plants and found this beautiful caterpillar getting ready for their Chrysalis.

P.E Lesson
While other students were learning their dance moves for the production, the rest of us went across the road to the big field to practice our throwing skills in a P.E. lesson.

Week Nine
